Who we are
The Modern Party / Le Parti Moderne is a Canadian federal not-for-profit corporation (Corporations Canada 1581636-0), operating as We Vote On It. It is not registered with Elections Canada as a political party. It does not issue tax receipts. This policy applies to www.wevoteonit.com, including Join, Donate, Merch, and Our Platform.
What we collect
- Join: name, email, mailing address, phone, language preference.
- Donate: name, email, amount, payment method, eligibility attestation. Card numbers are handled by Stripe Checkout; we do not store full card numbers when Stripe is on.
- Merch: name, email, quantity or size/colour, Canadian shipping address and optional phone, plus Stripe and Printful order ids. Merch is a sale at cost, not a political contribution.
- Our Platform accounts: name, email, optional riding and province, verification flags, role, optional political preferences you choose to save, and votes tied to your account.
- Identity verification (Persona): when enabled, Persona collects a government photo ID and a live selfie. This site stores the inquiry id, status, a verified-at time, and a one-way hash of document number plus country when Persona returns those fields. We do not store ID images, selfies, or raw document numbers.
- Security logs: hashed IP and device hints, and audit events (for example that a vote happened, not how you voted).
Processors
We use service providers to run this site. They process personal information only to provide that service:
- Vercel — hosting and logs (United States).
- Postgres / Neon — the production database, when DATABASE_URL is set.
- Stripe — card donations and merch payments.
- Printful — printing and shipping merch in Canada.
- Persona — government ID and selfie checks when that integration is enabled (sandbox until production Persona is turned on).
- Resend — transactional sign-in emails (one-time codes).
- OpenAI — optional reviewer-gated bill briefs from public LEGISinfo text only, and only if OPENAI_API_KEY is set. Member comments are not sent.
Why we collect it
To run membership and donation records, ship merch, send a sign-in code, confirm you are a unique person for Our Platform, and operate votes and reviews. We do not sell personal information. We do not issue official tax receipts while unregistered.
Retention, access, and complaints
There is no automated deletion schedule yet. If you want a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion, write to We Vote On It at Privacy@TheModernParty.ca. Include enough detail to find your records (name, email, mailing address). We will also use that address for privacy questions and complaints.

Cookies
We use a signed httpOnly session cookie after you prove your email (or use a passkey), a short-lived cookie while a sign-in code is outstanding, a language cookie (EN/FR), and cookies needed for Stripe Checkout. We do not use third-party advertising pixels on this site.
